Granular 65% Magnesium Oxide
Magnesium Oxide, frequently referred to as magnesia, is a prominent alkaline earth metal oxide with the chemical formula MgO. It is a white, hygroscopic solid mineral that occurs naturally as the rare mineral periclase. Characterized by its strong ionic bonding between magnesium and oxygen atoms, Magnesium Oxide possesses a remarkably high melting point, superb electrical insulation properties, and excellent thermal stability.
Magnesium Oxide is generally produced through calcination of magnesium carbonate or magnesium hydroxide. Different calcination temperatures generate grades with distinct activity levels, which directly decide its applicable scenarios. Chemically, Magnesium Oxide belongs to a typical basic oxide. It barely dissolves in pure water but reacts slowly with water to produce magnesium hydroxide. It readily reacts with acids and ammonium salt solutions to form magnesium salts, so it is widely adopted as a neutralising agent for acidic wastewater and flue gas treatment in environmental protection projects.
Due to its excellent heat resistance and electrical insulation performance, Magnesium Oxide serves as refractory lining for steel furnaces, cement kilns and high-temperature reactors. It is also packed inside heating tubes as an insulating medium for electric heating elements. In agriculture, Magnesium Oxide acts as a magnesium fertiliser supplementing soil magnesium to boost crop photosynthesis. In pharmaceutical and food industries, high-purity Magnesium Oxide works as an antacid and additive. Besides, it is used in magnesia cement, ceramic substrates and catalyst carriers.
Various industries select proper Magnesium Oxide grades by controlling particle size, purity and activity. As a versatile inorganic chemical, Magnesium Oxide remains irreplaceable across metallurgy, construction, agriculture, environmental protection and advanced materials sectors.
